Last month had to download the new version of AxCrypt to open a file that had been encrypted with an old version of the software.  I don’t remember converting the file but I suppose I must have.  From other threads on this forum I understand that the new password to this file is now meant to be my account password.  I forgot this password and had to reset it but I now I cannot access my encrypted file.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hello Will,

If you do not remember the password to your old account, you can always reset it. This is not a way to recover encrypted files! It’s only to allow you to sign in to the new AxCrypt. The new password will be used to encrypt new files. Go to to do this, or you can also go there from AxCrypt with File | Options | Password Reset .

Unfortunately, if you do not know the password you cannot open an encrypted file. That is what AxCrypt is made for!

Please check the FAQ at for more information.
