I have secured a file and wish to stop securing it. When trying to Stop Securing and Remove from list I receive the following message: file open in another application. Please close it and try again.

The file is not open in another application. I have rebooted my system and tried again only to receive the same message.

I am currently under my free trial period and trying to determine whether or not to keep this software.

Is there an answer out there? Replies appreciated.

    • What sort of file is it? (PDF, XLSX etc)
    • What version of AxCrypt are you using?
    • What version of MacOS are you using?
    • Have you checked the Mac Activity Monitor?
    • Does it affect one file or all your files?

    Hello,

This seems to be a glitch in the macOS version. Files can sometimes get “stuck” so that the clean broom icon doesn’t work and AxCrypt thinks you have the file open for editing somewhere, and thus won’t allow you to decrypt and forget about it since you’d then risk losing your edits.

The work-around for now seems to be to completely exit AxCrypt. and then click the broom. We’ll be fixing this asap.

    Hello,

I am trial testing on a Mac and this problem occurs on every file I open with AxCrypt.  I am opening simple text files with the text editor.  After closing the text editor app the red broom does not go away.  The Clean Open Files button does not clear the file.  This is a serious problem with files on iCloud because AxCrypt will not pickup any new changes from iCloud while the red broom indicator is on.  Is there a fix for this problem? Thanks.

    Hello Greg,

If the file, in fact, is located in a folder designated as “Secured”, it will soon be re-encrypted again since those folders are monitored for unencrypted files and will encrypt them when you sign out or click the “Broom” clean up icon.

AxCrypt 2 uses a more robust method for the automatic re-encryption, which sometimes means you as the user have to tell AxCrypt to do it. You’ll see this by the “broom” icon becoming red. This indicates there’s something in need of “clean up”, i.e. re-encryption.

So after editing the encrypted files, we have to click the broom icon or sign out from the AxCrypt app to re-encrypt the updated files.

Please note: If you opened and updated an encrypted text file with notepad and at the same time you had opened another notepad application also, then you have to close both the opened applications to re-encrypt the encrypted files. You have to close all the opened corresponding applications properly.

After Closing all the opened corresponding applications properly now Broom icon is disabled. Now you can signout/Exit from the AxCrypt app. If not close the opened Application Broom icon is enabled only.(it indicate encrypted file(s) are open)

If the above does not help, please provide more information about the issue and write a mail to support@axcrypt.net.
