I recently found an old usb with a few files encrypted by Axcrypt 1. I can’t recall the associated email OR password. Is there an way round this?February 14, 2020 at 13:50 #15369
AxCrypt will allow the users to decrypt the encrypted file with the original password which is used for encryption.
If the file was encrypted with a different password than your sign in password, then you have to enter the file password while viewing/decrypting the encrypted file.
For example: Try to encrypt a file with your AxCrypt password and then reset your AxCrypt account password using Reset Password Feature. Now if you open the encrypted file, you will be prompted for enter the file password (which is used for encryption of the file).
If you think you almost know the password, we have simple software allowing you to try to find your password, and you can download the most recent version from https://account.axcrypt.net/Download/AxBruteForce.exe and read of how to use it at https://www.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ . Please note that we cannot provide support beyond this.
Unfortunately, if you do not know the password for an AxCrypt-encrypted file you cannot open it, even if you can sign in to the account. This is by design, it’s just this situation that AxCrypt is made for and it works like this even if you actually are the original owner of the file.
Please note: AxCrypt is a file encryption software with no backdoor, That means (we do not store the account password anywhere in our servers). Nobody can decrypt the encrypted files without the file password used in the file encryption. This is the way AxCrypt app was designed.February 14, 2020 at 14:17 #15370
so you are saying if I knew the email i could enter it then use the brute force tool on the password?. Sounds promising. Can you help me with the email address? do you keep a record of them anywhere?February 17, 2020 at 14:09 #15383
AxCrypt app required the file password(which was used in the file encryption process) to decrypt/view the encrypted file(s).
Email address is not required to use the AxBruteForce tool. Please read the link https://www.axcrypt.net/axcrypt-brute-force/ to know more about the AxBruteForce tool.
Still, if you need to know about your account information, please contact our support via email@example.com .
